White Secret Lotion Review

Getting rid of dark spots and uneven skin tone is one of the main reasons behind the use of skin lightening products. Most of these brands promise to not only make your skin lighter but to do so at unbelievable speeds. In our “White Secret” Lotion review, we delve deeper into the details behind such results.

To provide you with accurate information on safer skincare solutions, we continue to review skin lighteners from all over the world. “White Secret” happens to be one of the most popular brands in the Asian and African markets. Among its appealing traits is the promise of “bright results from the very first five (5) days”.

So, should you add this product to your skin lightening routine? Read on to know how the cream works, its ingredients, and customers reviews among other details.

What is White Secret Lotion

White Secret is a skin lightening lotion produced in Lome, Togo. The product sells under the Rodis® brand. The company has been in operation for over two decades.

Typically, the lotion sells both as a single product or as part of a larger package. A pack of 4 White Secret products contains a lightening lotion, a skin lightening soap, dark spot remover face cream, and a complexion serum.

What Ingredients Does White Secret Lotion Contain?

In the White Secret Lotion review, we could only unearth a few ingredients. A close examination reveals substances which nourish the skin, reduce signs of ageing and whiten the skin.

That said, none of the listed ingredients matches up to the ‘5-day’ skin lightening results. To get a better understanding of how the lotion works, here is a more in-depth look at each of the ingredients shown on the tube.

  • Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble mineral that comes with beneficial properties for your skin. It is a potent antioxidant, making the lotion effective against free radicals that damage skin.

As an antioxidant, vitamin E also helps to reduce sun damage which is associated with sunburns, chronic inflammation, and dark spots. Also, it encourages skin rejuvenation, which helps to fight wrinkles and maintain skin elasticity.

  • AHAs

AHA stands for alpha-hydroxy acids, a class of acids known to improve the appearance and feel of the skin. These acids slough off dead and damaged skin. As such, AHAs make the best chemical peels– whereby they penetrate deep into the skin to act on different layers.

The manufacturer does not, however, specify the type of acid(s) contained in the lotion or the exact concentration. Why should this concern you? At high concentrations, AHAs can severely increase photosensitivity, irritate the skin and cause deep flaking.

  • Vaseline Oil

Vaseline oil is an emollient used to soften and moisturize the skin. While not an active ingredient, it plays an essential role in helping to spread the lotion. It also helps in filling gaps between skin cells, which helps to seal cracks and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

  • Stearic Acid

Stearic acid is a fatty acid used in most skincare and hair products. It’s an inactive ingredient that helps in mixing oil and water. Primarily, it helps in keeping different elements from separating. To some extent, stearic acid also serves as a fragrance.

  • Lorol C16 & Lorol 18

These are saturated fatty alcohols used as emollient and texture enhancers in cosmetics. They are inactive ingredients that only help in the delivery of the active ingredients in the lightener’s formulation.

Other ingredients: Petroleum jelly, silicone oil, carrot oil, isopropyl myristate, and water.

How to Use White Secret Lotion

As per the manufacturer’s instructions, the lotion should be used twice daily, in the morning and evening. We did not come across the duration of use during our White Secret lotion review. However, from customer reviews and feedback, for desired results, the lotion should be used for 2 weeks at a time.

The lotion comes in tubes of 200ml, 300ml, and the biggest, 500ml which can last a few months. The manufacturer cautions against using the cream on cuts and irritated skin. Also, the lotion should not be exposed to sunlight.

White Secret Lotion Review: Side Effects

With most skin lighteners, some side effects such as mild irritation and redness are normal reactions. This is especially reported by first time users, with the side effects lessening with subsequent use. With White Secret Lotion though, some users have reported persistent irritation and increased skin sensitivity.

Pros

  • Works fast
  • Readily available
  • Comparatively cheaper
  • Packaged to last long

Cons

  • The product can change colour during use
  • Strong smell
  • Undisclosed ‘secret’ active ingredient
  • Few customer reviews
  • Limited information from the manufacturer

White Secret Lotion Review: Customer Feedback

From the customer reviews that we have come across, the cream does work as touted. Most users report a noticeable improvement in skin tone after seven days of use.

The fast working time has, however, left many wondering what could be the miracle chemical behind the brand. The fact that only lighteners with potent compounds act this fast only increases the concerns. From our research, safe and long-lasting skin lightening is gradual. Typically, it takes at least 14 to 21 days before a change in skin tone becomes apparent.

Even with sunscreen, most customer agree that the lotion has a very strong smell. Use on intimate and delicate areas of the skin also seems to result in irritation.

Other users have also advised using the lotion only once, at night. Simply put, the consistent message from most of the reviews is that ‘you can use it but cautiously’.

CAUTION!The consistent message from most customer reviews is that ‘you can use the lotion, but cautiously’.

White Secret Lotion Review: Cost

The price ranges widely from about $24 to $40 for a jar of 500 ml. In African countries, the lotion comes at a lower price compared to western countries. For example, you can get it for as low as the equivalent of $6 in Nigeria. Often, you will also find it under the name ‘Generic White Secret’ Lightening Body Lotion.

The Takeaway

‘White Secret’ Lotion is a popular skin lightening lotion among African and Asian markets. It is also available in leading online outlets at a relatively lower price. Customers can stand behind the promise of “bright results from the very first five days”.

Unfortunately, the brief list of ingredients and the little product information provided by the manufacturers reveal nothing to back-up such speedy results.
